Frequently Asked Questions:
How can therapy help me?
There are a number of benefits that are available for those who choose to participate in therapy. Therapists can provide a supportive, encouraging and caring environment for clients to develop problem-solving skills and effective coping strategies. Many people find that counseling offers a fresh perspective from the therapist on managing personal growth, dealing with the stresses of life and navigating family and relationship conflicts. The benefits that you obtain from counseling depend on how actively engaged and committed you are to the process and your usage of the skills you learned in session. These benefits are long-lasting and may include the following:
- Gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, goals and values
- Becoming more aware of personal feelings and emotions
- Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety
- Finding resolutions to manage anger and depression
- Improving communication and listening skills
- Developing conflict resolutions and problem solving skills
- Improving self-esteem and self-worth
- Learning how to be more present in the moment
- Changing ineffective behaviors and habits and developing effective ones
How long will therapy last?
The length of therapy will be different for each client and is based on individual goals, challenges and circumstances surrounding the need for therapy. Depending on your specific needs, sessions can be considered on a short-term or long-term basis. Throughout the therapy process, we will continually evaluate your progress on your goals and determine an appropriate end date.
What is your therapeutic approach to therapy?
I believe that each area of a person’s life can have an effect on them, therefore it is important to explore all of theses areas in counseling in order to gain a better understanding of the client as a whole. My goal is to offer you a way to transformational change and healing that will significantly impact many aspects of your life in a positive way. You will have the opportunity to choose your goals and we will work at a pace that is comfortable for you.
Several techniques from various clinical approaches resonate with me including solution focused, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, positive psychology and family systems. Also, I incorporate a strengths-based and value systems approach as a way to better understand your situation and empower you to move forward. It is true that you are an expert on your life and you already posses the skills to get the results you desire. I hope to help facilitate an awareness of this fact by using your own strengths from within.
What about confidentiality?
Confidentiality is one of the most important components of the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. Each client is given documentation of the confidential disclosure agreement outlining the limits of confidentiality. You can expect that your information will not be shared with anyone without a written consent from you first.
Do you offer online sessions?
I am now able to offer online sessions for clients through a secure, confidential and HIPPA compliant telemedical hosting site called doxy.me. I will provide you the URL link to my “virtual office” and you can access the meeting at the time of our session. Some insurances may participate in telehealth services, but please call your insurance company to verify first. For those interested in this service and will not be using your insurance, the full rate per session will be billed.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently accept the following insurances:
I am considered “Out of Network” for all other insurance providers, but am happy to provide you with a Superbill (an invoice of the summary of services rendered and paid for) to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Please contact your insurance carrier to determine eligibility for coverage of mental health services and reimbursement rates as they differ from policy to policy. Payment is due at the time of service and can be made using cash or check.
